That was Elaun jamming on the Taylor!
The first guitar was a dreadnought with a beautiful full sound, but way too big for me to play comfortably. The second was a Yamaha thin body, but it wasn’t set up properly. The action was too high and the strings were super hard to press to get a clean sound, so back it went.
Before returning it, I called my rep Brenton at Sweetwater and we talked for about 40 minutes. He owns a Taylor GS Mini and was telling me they’re fantastic guitars. Small, beautiful looking, beautiful sound, and he thought it would be perfect as an entry level guitar for me. I had actually researched the Taylor after watching YouTube videos but had never played one.
So I told him I’d test one out at Guitar Center while returning the second guitar. If I liked it, I’d order it from Sweetwater instead. Why Sweetwater over the Guitar Center right around the corner? Their customer service is fantastic, I get a 2-year warranty at no extra cost, I know it’ll be factory sealed, they store their guitars at proper room temperature, plus it comes with a travel case and I’m getting guitar chord and battery for the electric part of it with a bundle discount.
This was originally a birthday gift from my mom. On my actual birthday there was a lot going on and I was excited, so I just picked what looked and sounded good in the busy store. But after playing it for a while, I realized it wasn’t quite right.
Now that I’ve played the Taylor, oh my gosh, it fits my body perfectly and I love the way it sounds! Even the used one I tried didn’t require hard pressing on the strings. I’m totally in love with this guitar and so excited to order it through my Sweetwater rep Brenton.
If I’m really going to learn guitar, take lessons, and get good at it, I want to start with something I actually enjoy playing. It’s not just about the look, it’s about the feel!
